Ever wondered about hidden gems of United States trivia that even most Americans don’t know? In this blog post, some frequent travelers share their favorite fun facts about the United States. Alaska’s Longest Coastline

I’ve always been fascinated by the sheer size of the country’s longest coastline—not in California, as many would guess, but in Alaska. It spans over 6,000 miles! It’s hard to wrap your head around a coastline that long, filled with rugged cliffs, icy waters, and incredible wildlife. This is a part of the U.S. that often feels distant, but it embodies the raw, untouched beauty that many travelers dream of. Alaska’s coastline also represents a lesser-seen side of American culture and nature, one that makes you appreciate just how vast and varied this country truly is. As a travel enthusiast, I think it’s one of the country’s best-kept secrets.

Chicago’s Street Art Innovation

One of my favorite pieces of U.S. trivia is that Chicago’s spray paint ban indirectly inspired the rise of street art culture. Artists had to get creative, using non-traditional mediums and techniques, which led to the city becoming a global hub for unique murals and graffiti art. It’s a cool example of innovation thriving under restrictions!

Tax Day’s Historical Change

I’d have to say my favorite bit of U.S. trivia is about tax day—April 15th! Did you know it used to be March 1st when it first started? Moving it to April was actually meant to give everyone a bit more time, and as a tax professional, I can certainly appreciate that! But, if you’re looking for a truly interesting tax history, check out the state of Delaware. It’s famous for being a tax haven with its unique corporate laws, attracting businesses from all over the world.

Kinder Eggs Banned, Guns Not

My favorite piece of United States trivia is the fact that children’s Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are banned, but guns are not. [An extra note: The Food and Drug Administration banned these eggs in 1938 because they consist of choking hazards.]

The Monosyllabic Maine

I wanted to get in on this party, so here’s one of my favorite U.S. facts: Maine is the only state that’s one syllable. With a total of 50, you’d think there’d be a lot more, but go through the entire list, and Maine is the lone monosyllabic one. The closest is New York, which is two one-word syllables, but as any math expert (or basic counter) will tell you, that’s still two syllables. Maine has a lot of fun facts! Here are some more.
